CONCEPT
This reimagining of The Wiz Jr. was rooted in the San Francisco Bay Area, drawing inspiration from the city’s beauty, contradictions, and creative grit. The story followed Dorothy Gale on a journey toward self-discovery, using the Bay as both setting and metaphor—where growing up means learning to navigate change, resilience, and possibility.
Dorothy didn’t come from Kansas, but from Kansas Street, and the Wiz arrived in Oz by way of Fresno, grounding the fantastical world in familiar geography. Costumes, sets, and props were built from recycled materials and layered with graffiti aesthetics, celebrating resourcefulness, environmental consciousness, and the visual language of the city.
This production was a love letter to imagination and to the Bay Area itself—a place where dreams are tested, transformed, and, for many of us, made real.
